Roland R. Goins stadium is located at the northeast corner of the John Hersey High School Campus at 1900 East Thomas Street in Arlington Heights. The stadium features artificial turf for football and soccer and a quarter mile track just off of Waterman Avenue north of Thomas Street.
Officials from the Arlington Heights Park District, Hersey High School, and Northwest Suburban High School District 214 dedicated Hersey High School’s Roland R. Goins Football Stadium on September 9, 2011 following the upgrade of the stadium.
The field has featured a synthetic turf field since September 2011 with the Arlington Heights Park District and the District 214 school board combining funds of about approximately $1 million to pay for the installation of a new artificial surface.
ROLAND R. GOINS STADIUM
Roland R. Goins was John Hersey High School’s first principal, supervised the construction of the school, hired the initial staff, and served from 1967 until 1984.
Roland R. Goins was born in Yorkville and graduated from Yorkville High School.
Roland R. Goins earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1951 and a master’s degree in education at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1955.
Roland R. Goins served in the Army from 1951 to 1953.
Roland R. Goins attended Colorado State University for postgraduate studies.
Roland R. Goins was a biology teacher at the former Arlington High School, Arlington Heights, from 1955 to 1963.
Roland R. Goins served as assistant principal and head of the math and science division at Wheeling High School from 1963 to 1967.
