RECOMMENDED COMMENTING BEST PRACTICES
Facebook can suspend you for certain comments you make or photos you share. With the understanding that Facebook keeps a permanent archive of every action you take, you might want to consider limiting content of your comments and posts. Use care when posting about a marginalized identity, a heavy political topic, or something that could be considered “fake news.” Avoid posting anything based on a reactive emotion that insults or personally attacks another person or Facebook page. Especially a comment or content that you share that you may regret at a later time. Everything shared or posted remains in the Facebook system and can become incriminating or regrettable in the future. Even innocent comments can be misunderstood, deliberately taken out of context, or exaggerated. You can also become a victim of CANCEL CULTURE by vindictive people who do not understand the importance the freedom of expression and the evolution of free thought and understanding in a functioning democracy.
CANCEL CULTURE
Cancel Culture describes a form of boycott or ostracism in which the called-out (“cancelled”) person is also thrust out of social or professional circles. The “cancelled” person can become banned on social media (losing all the capability of all forms of communication on a social media platform) and/or lose their job or even their career.
Ideally, Facebook is used lightly to communicate with friends and family or to follow and engage with businesses. Steer clear of the politics and manage sensitive conversations in person or over the phone to avoid the permanent record.
