Mundelein police responded about 1:42 p.m. Monday January 22, 2018 to a report of a student with a handgun at Mundelein High School. The school was put on soft lockdown for 20 minutes while officers investigated, and determined the gun was a BB gun.
School officials and police determined that during a passing period a boy pulled out a BB gun in a bathroom and showed it to other students. One of the students then told security about seeing the gun.
Mundelein High School officials said that the suspected student was located and a BB gun was found in his possession. No injuries were reported.
“At no point in time were students or staff in any danger. We thank the student for coming forward and the staff for their immediate cooperation,” officials said in a statement.
Mundelein Police said that they found nothing to indicate the student planned to shoot the BB gun. The boy was charged with disorderly conduct and referred to the Lake County juvenile court. As is normal in this particular type of case, the name and age of the student was not released.
