Police Release Identity of Victim of Homicide Near Waukegan Walmart on Fountain Square Place

Waukegan police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office released the identity Wednesday of the victim of a fatal shooting outside the Walmart at 3900 Fountain Square Place in Waukegan on Monday December 11, 2017. Jovan DuBose, age 23, of Park City, died from injuries related to a gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Waukegan Police Department. The determination was made after preliminary autopsy results were analyzed. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper added in the statement that toxicology results are pending.

The shooting remained under investigation Wednesday by the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.

IN the statement, police said, “Investigators do not believe there is a threat to the community and are classifying this incident as ‘isolated.'”

Waukegan police responded just before 6:00 p.m. Monday December 11, 2017 to the Walmart parking lot as multiple 9-1-1 calls reported shots fired, and then a traffic crash. While enroute to the scene, police officers were updated that a person had been shot.

Upon arrival, police officers located the victim in the parking lot on the east side of the building. Police on the scene reported it appeared the victim had been shot. CPR was initiated, but DuBose was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators were reviewing evidence that included video images from security cameras in the vicinity. Waukegan Police Chief Wayne Walles also stated there was evidence of an crash at the scene. The Lake County coroner’s office was notified about the homicide, and responded to the area about 9:00 p.m.
