Mokena firefighter/paramedics, Illinois State Troopers and IDOT crews responded about 5:55 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017 to a truck crash on eastbound I-90 just west of LaGrange Road near Mokena, Illinois and Frankfort Township. Additional paramedics were also called to the scene. The crash also involved a Mercedes SUV.
A MABAS Division 19 extra-alarm EMS Box for extra ambulances was activated at 6:02 p.m. There was no confirmation on the number or extent of injuries, but the extra ambulances activated for the MABAS extra alarm were immediately returned as the EMS Box Alarm was struck out by 6:11 p.m.
All eastbound lanes were shut down during crash rescue and recovery of vehicles. One United Van Lines semi-trailer truck was rear-ended and another semi-trailer truck was off into a right ditch about 100 feet ahead of the United Van Lines truck.
Google traffic layer showed eastbound traffic remained backed up to almost Parker Road at 10:15 p.m. About an hour after the crash (7:00 p.m.), Google traffic layer indicated traffic was backed up past Parker Road and almost to I-355.
The crash follows a multi-car crash in darkness early Saturday morning just before 5:00 a.m. at eastbound I-80 and the 142 mile-marker near the 187th Street bridge. No serious injuries were reported at Saturday’s crash.
In the Twitter video caption below showing the crash from cellphone video from a passing vehicle, “suicide by 18 wheeler” is not confirmed, and not expected to be a true statement.
