CDC Confirms Swine Flu at St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens …
More than 100 students at St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens were suddenly hit with fever, sore throat and other aches and pains. Preliminary lab results came back positive for swine flu in eight tests. So far the New York cases are mild compared to what doctors are seeing in Mexico. About 80 people have died related to Swine Flue at the time of this posting at 12:12 PM CDT.
Investigators are also testing children who fell ill at a day care center in the Bronx, and clusters of sick kids recently turned up in Chappaqua, Westchester County and Amityville, Suffolk County.
Experts expect to see additional cases in more states. The unfolding of this event is being termed a “marathon” event.
Public health declaration is no where near a quarantine level. Authority for quarantines usually occurs at the state and local level.
Pandemic preparedness is underway.
