Lake Villa FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:38 a.m. Tuesday October 24, 2017 to a report of a house fire at 36933 North Corona Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa. Firefighter/paramedics received a report of a house fire with smoke coming from the vents. A person that called 9-1-1 said they could definitely see fire inside, and believed someone was inside the house.
Lake County sheriff’s deputies on arrival reported smoke coming from the northwest side of the residence, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Covelli.
BC24 on arrival reported smoke showing from the house, and reported they had a working structure fire. The fire was under control by 8:08 a.m.
Firefighters found the 56-year-old male homeowner dead in a bedroom, according to Sgt. Covelli.
Authorities said they expect to release the man’s identity Wednesday. The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy on the victim Tuesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation indicates the house fire is not suspicious, and is “possibly accidentally.” Sheriff’s detectives, the Lake Villa Fire Protection District, the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal and Lake County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The State Fire Marshal was called to respond to the scene.
