Last year this date was also warmer than normal (by only one degree) with a high of 73°F. This year’s record was 23 degrees above the normal high of 72°F.
A record warm minimum temperature of 72° was set on Saturday morning, September 23, 2017 at Chicago’s official O’Hare station, breaking previous record warm low of 71° set in 1891. The normal low (minimum temperature) for September 23 is 51°F.
Sunday September 24, 2017 reached a low of at least 71°F, which would tie the record warm minimum temperature of 71°F for September 24 (1930). The official low is usually released about 1:30 a.m. following the end of the previous day.
