Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:50 AM Thursday August 31, 2017 to a report of a missing person with a history of mental illness near Lake Arlington, Windsor Drive and Valley Lane Arlington Heights, Il. Police on the scene requested firefighter/paramedics to respond to the scene when they found clothing near the dock, just east of the boathouse at Lake Arlington. Police had originally been called to the area of Town Boulevard on the east side of Lake Arlington.
A boat crew searched the entire lake while divers focused on the area near the boat dock, and firefighters also used Side Sonar Scanners to try to find the image of a body underwater. A police K-9 unit also searched the shoreline area. Suddenly a firefighter saw the woman climbing up out of the water by the dock. She was then carried up the embankment near the lake, and transported by firefighter/paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital.
The woman was apparently hiding under a boat or under the dock during much of the 2.5 hour rescue operation. Firefighter/paramedics discovered the woman climbing near the dock at about 11:24 a.m.
Police said the 40-year-old woman suffers from mental illness, and her last known location was at Lake Arlington Park (2201 N. Windsor Drive Arlington Heights), where her shoes and the family dog were found. A search of the park and lake was initiated by police and fire personnel. Police said during the search, the woman was found conscious and in relatively good physical health. She was transported to Northwest Community Hospital for treatment and observation.
There is no foul play suspected in this incident.
Firefighter/divers from Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Wauconda and Wheeling assisted Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics.
