Waukegan police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:30 a.m. Saturday August 19, 2017 to a report of a serious motorcycle crash near Berwick Avenue and Grand Avenue.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Police believe the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Berwick Avenue approaching Grand Avenue when the driver lost control, and the motorcycle crashed into multiple parked cars on Berwick Avenue.
Streets near the scene were closed for an extended accident investigation by the Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division.
Waukegan police believe that excessive speed played a factor in the crash. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper identified the man killed as Jose Hernandez, 28, of Round Lake Heights. “Preliminary autopsy results indicate Mr. Hernandez died from multiple traumatic injuries due to the crash. Toxicology results are pending,” Cooper said.
