Buffalo Grove and Wheeling firefighter/paramedics and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:58 a.m. Sunday July 9, 2017 to the area of 301 North Riverwalk Drive in Buffalo Grove after a woman survived an ATV vehicle crash and called 9-1-1 for help. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a female patient had facial injuries, and a male patient was unconscious and possibly not breathing.

A female passenger that had crashed in a one-vehicle ATV accident reported she was at the northeast corner of Lake Cook and Milwaukee Avenue near the Lake County Forest Preserve. She told a 911 dispatcher that she was feeling as though she was going to pass out from a head injury. Dispatchers used 911 cellphone mapping to attempt to pinpoint the female passenger’s location, which initially showed her east of the Des Plaines River. Initially rescuers did not find anything northeast of Lake Cook Road and Milwaukee Avenue, but discovered the crash when they headed southbound on the path and the Lake Cook Road bridge east of the Des Plaines River. While searching, firefighter/paramedics were updated that the male patient was 36-years-old, unconscious, but breathing. Firefighter/paramedics, along with Lake County Sheriff’s deputies, located the female patient and the male driver of the ATV on the path southeast of Riverwalk Drive, just south of the Lake Cook path bridge by about 1:09 a.m.

The male ATV crash victim was discovered in traumatic cardiac arrest by police and Wheeling firefighter/paramedics. Firefighter/paramedics were working CPR by 1:14 a.m.

A Wheeling Ambulance 23’s crew with Engine 42’s crew transported the man, age 36, to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville. The man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, authorities said.

The female patient was transported by Buffalo Grove Fire Department firefighter/paramedics to Advocate Condell Medical Center with minor injuries.

Lake County Sheriff’s police are investigating the crash.
