Wauconda police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:58 p.m. Sunday July 2, 2017 to a report of a garage fire.
Squad 341’s crew on arrival reported smoke showing from a detached garage. The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes, but a firefighter suffered an unspecified injury at the scene. The fire was declared under control with overhaul beginning by 12:14 a.m.
Officials said the fire was caused by discarded fireworks. Investigators determined the cause of the fire was discarded fireworks located in a garbage can in the garage. The estimated property loss from the fire was $20,000.
Firefighter/paramedics from Countryside, Round Lake, Mundelein, Nunda and Lake Zurich fire departments assisted Wauconda firefighter/paramedics.
