The Village of Arlington Heights, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, has announced the moving date for the Arlington Heights Police Department out of the current headquarters, to clear the building at make room for a new police headquarters at the same location.
The Arlington Heights Police Department will be moving to a temporary facility, 1500 W. Shure Drive, on Monday, May 15 while a new police station is built on the municipal campus, between the Village Hall, the Municipal Garage and Fire Station #1. The temporary location is near Route 53 and Dundee Road, about 5 mile trip north of the current police station. The location is just south of Lexus of Arlington and Days Inn & Suites Arlington Heights — the former location of La Quinta.
The Village of Arlington Heights says that the Police Department will maintain its same level of coverage, providing the community with 24/7 police services. Although the temporary facility is located in the northern section of the Village, regular patrols will not be impacted. Patrol deployment schedules will be staggered. The Village of Arlington Heights says that different starting and ending times ensures continuous police coverage. Police officers are deployed throughout the community to strategic geographical areas and do not regularly respond from a physical location when assigned to investigate a call for service. Designated areas of patrol responsibility or beats allows officers to provide a quick response to any calls received during their shift. This will allow for a continuity of service while a new facility is under construction.
People who wish to conduct police business on Monday, May 15th may do so after 8 a.m. by visiting the Police Department’s temporary location at 1500 Shure Drive, Suite 100 (off the 1st floor lobby). All phone and email contacts for Police Department personnel will remain the same.
The Police Department will occupy approximately 15,000 square feet of space at 1500 West Shure Drive, which consists of 2,300 square feet on the first-floor of the building with the remainder on the third floor. The first floor will include a front desk that offers 24/7 service to the public.
Workspace accommodations for Police officers have been setup at Village Hall and two Fire Stations where police officers can utilize the offices 24/7 to file a report remotely or conduct other business without needing to travel to the temporary facility, according to the Village of Arlington Heights.
The Village has budgeted $2.2 million for other building costs and a temporary relocation, moving costs, rent and other miscellaneous costs related to construction of a new facility, the $21,896.88 monthly rent for 15,000 square feet is well within the allotted budget. The terms of the lease are for 24 months with an option to extend if necessary, along with the ability to vacate after 14 months with no termination fee.
The existing police station, which will be demolished before construction begins this summer, is 38,000 square feet. The temporary facility is approximately 15,000 square feet.
Construction of a new Headquarters Police Station facility will begin this summer and will include a two-level building of approximately 70,500 square-feet and a 10,000 square foot garage. Construction of the new station is expected to cost $27.9 million.
The Village of Arlington Heights did not mention what facilities the police department will use for a jail, but the location is believed to be primarily at the Buffalo Grove Police Department Headquarters, courtesy of the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
