Chicago Police responded about 12:00 p.m. Thursday April 27, 2017 to a report of shots fired near the Portillo’s, 520 West Taylor Street in the South Loop. However, it was the FBI that made the call because they were already there. Shots were fired outside the Portillo’s in the South Loop during lunchtime on Thursday.

Three FBI agents were driving into the Portillo’s parking lot, about to get lunch, when they heard the gunshots, according to FBI spokesman Garrett Croon.

An FBI agent got out of the car and apprehended and detained a man with a gun. No shots were fired by FBI agents.

The FBI agents called Chicago Police, who took the man and his gun into custody.

No one was hit by the gunman’s shots, and there was no reported damage at Portillo’s. The restaurant continued serving lunch — including their FBI customers.
