SHOTS FIRED NEAR US CAPITOL: Woman Tried to Ram US Capitol Police Cruiser

Police responded about 8:30 a.m. ET to the area of the after a woman tried to ram a U.S. Capitol police cruiser.

Events began to unfold near the Library of Congress after police noticed a car being driven erratically eastbound and the vehicle made a U-Turn. Next the driver traveled several blocks and police activity converged near the Rayburn Center near Washington and Independence. The driver was reported to have been on the wrong side of the road times. Early unconfirmed reports are that the woman revved her engine and a shot was fired by a police officer. The D.C. Police report no one was struck by the bullets.

A D.C. Police spokesperson confirmed that a female driving a vehicle tried to ram a U.S. Capitol Police cruiser in the area of 100 Independence Southwest. A spokeswoman initially reported that a traffic stop was attempted. By 9:45 a.m., the suspect was captured and was in custody. The spokesperson reported the act appears to be criminal, and not part of a terrorist nexus.

Initially, it was not immediately clear who fired the shots.
