Northbrook police responded about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday December 7, 2016 to the office of the JKP Law Firm at 1363 Shermer Road to a call for a well-being check. Police found Jigar Patel dead in a third-floor office.
Police immediately began investigating a strangulation death of the Northbrook attorney and Prospect Heights resident. On Friday morning, following an autopsy, the Cook County medical examiner’s office classified the death of 36-year-old Jigar K. Patel as a homicide.
Northbrook Police said they believe the homicide is an isolated incident and said they believe there is no threat to the community.
Patel’s law firm website published that he specializes in real estate and condominium law, business law, and commercial litigation.
Patel’s accomplishments listed on the law firm website listed that he “initiated and completed numerous actions in Forcible Entry and Detainer to recover possession for landlord in Cook County and Lake County” and “successfully defended and dismissed counterclaims brought by defaulting tenants to escape liability under commercial lease.”
He was in good standing with the state Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.
According to his LinkedIn account, Jigar Patel graduated with a law degree in 2006 from DePaul University College of Law.
Patel’s death is being investigated by Northbrook police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force. Investigators urge anyone who has information, or saw anything suspicious in that area Wednesday afternoon or evening to call Northbrook police at 847-564-2060.
