Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 1:13 AM September 12, 2016 to the 38500 block of North Sheridan Road, Beach Park, for a report of a victim with a gunshot wound.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a 42-year-old man from Waukegan with a single gunshot wound to the upper left shoulder area. The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was in the parking lot of the Shoreline Terrace Apartments speaking with an acquaintance. He reported a black male, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt approached him, on foot, and shot him. The offender then fled on eastbound foot. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded with two K-9 units, but the offender was not located.
Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives investigated through the overnight hours and identified Brandon A. Brown, 26, of the 1900 block of 10th Street, Waukegan, as the shooting offender. Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm (class X felony) and aggravated battery (class 3 felony).
On September 13, 2016, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force along with Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives located Brown as he returned to his home. Detectives attempted to take him into custody, but Brown attempted to flee in his vehicle. He struck an unmarked sheriff’s squad car in the process. Detectives were able to take Brown into custody without further incident. He was found to be in possession of over 35 grams of cannabis.
He was then charged with resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of cannabis (class A misdemeanor) added to the previous charges.
Brown is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on $500,000.00 bail. His next scheduled court date is October 3, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
