Round Lake Police responded about 7:00 am. Monday September 12, 2016 to a report of a crash with injuries at Long Lake and Magna Drive.
Police arrived to find that a Dodge SUV, that was occupied by five minors on their way to Round Lake High School, crashed into the back of a semi-trailer truck on Long Lake Drive. All five minor passengers were transported by Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District with non-life threatening injuries to a local hospital. The driver was also a minor.
Initial Licensing Phase Illinois
For the first 12 months of licensing, or until the driver turns 18, whichever occurs first, the number of passengers is limited to one person under age 20, unless the passenger(s) is a sibling, stepsibling, child or stepchild of the driver. After this period, the number of passengers is limited to one in the front seat and the number of safety belts in the back seat.
The semi-trailer truck was turning into a driveway when the truck was rear-ended by the Dodge SUV. The truck driver was not injured. There was no word on any citations regarding safety involving the rear-end collision, including texting while driving or other distracted driving, the legal number of minor passengers in the Dodge SUV, or driving speed.
