Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:51 p.m. Friday when callers reported a disturbance, and at least one caller reported a suspicious person pounding on doors on the 0-99 block of North Macgillis Drive in Round Lake. The caller said the suspicious person was trying to break down a door in an effort to enter a home, according Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli.
A Round Lake police arrived to investigate encounter the person, and a physical struggle ensued near the home in a heavily wooded neighborhood just west of the Villas of Timber Creek mobile home community. During the struggle, an officer fired his weapon and shot the man, Covelli said.

Round Lake officers and Round Lake Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, which were unsuccessful. Covelli said the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County coroner’s office.
The police officer involved in the shooting was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries that were not life threatening.
No other information was released about the male shooting victim pending notification of next of kin.
As is protocol for all officer-involved shootings, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called shortly after 11 p.m. to conduct an independent investigation.
Police from several Lake County departments were called to the area to assist Round Lake Police Department. The neighborhood around McGillis Drive and Treehouse Lane became an area of investigation, and an area of search activity to rule out any additional accomplices or suspects were in the area. Residents arriving home in the immediate area were prohibited from entering their neighborhood as police secured the area and investigated the shooting.
Later Round Lake Police Chief Michael Gillette said no other suspects were being sought.
