The Lamborghini Huracán split in half — apparently on impact with the traffic signal pole, leaving the front half engulfed in flames facing the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Columbus Drive. The rear half of the Lamborghini Huracán came to rest on the sidewalk on the northeast corner of Balbo Avenue and Columbus Drive.

One or more citizens rescued the driver from the Lamborghini Huracán and brought him about 50 feet north of the crash scene on a sidewalk. Firefighters were called to the scene expecting a person trapped in the vehicle, but the driver was already rescued before they arrived, and the pin-in response was cancelled. The driver was injured, but Chicago Fire Department reported he did not suffer any burn injuries.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics transported the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A second ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.

The crash scene was located just south of Buckingham Fountain and just north of Soldier Field.
