Arlington Heights police received a report about 6:01 PM Tuesday of deception and impersonation of IRS agents by telephone involving Apple iTunes cards purchased at three separate Walgreens, including 3 East Golf Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders contacted the victim on her cell phone and purported to work for the IRS. The offender advised the victim that she owed $10,000 and demanded payment or the victim would be subject to arrest. The offender instructed the victim to go to the nearest Walgreens to purchase iTunes gift cards. The victim purchased three iTunes gift cards valued at $500 from three separate Walgreens and provided the offender with the card numbers.
The transactions are reported to have occurred on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 between 3:58 PM and 6:00 PM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 2:22 (hours: minutes).
The two other Walgreens locations where transactions occurred were not provided by the Arlington Heights Police Department
