There are reports of low-flying jets and tanks in the streets in Istanbul as the Turkish military claims to have overthrown President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Erdoğan government claims they have stopped the coup. Social media has been shut down and at 3:45 a.m. (GMT+3) the world waits for developments.
There have also been reports of clashes between the police and the military.
Explosions and gunfire have also been heard in the capital city of Ankara.
