The Old Country Buffet restaurant in Arlington Heights’ Town & Country Center was abruptly closed Wednesday June 15, 2016, a few month after surviving closures at other locations in February 2016.
Parent company Ovation Brands in February announced the permanent closure of 74 underperforming restaurants nationwide — under the names of Old Country Buffet, Hometown Buffet, Ryan’s, Fire Mountain and Country Buffet.
But on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, the Arlington Heights Country Buffet at Palatine Road between Rand Road and Arlington Heights Road abruptly closed.
A sign in the window announced:
“To our valued guests, this location is now CLOSED. Thank you for your business and we hope to serve you at another location very soon.”
Recently, a Bloomingdale location and the Arlington Heights location were the only suburban locations, and the Bloomingdale location on Gary Avenue had already closed. Years ago there was also a location in Rolling Meadows with a Golf Road address across from the Arlington Heights Lowes on Algonquin Road. The Rolling Meadows Old County Buffet closed in March 2012.
Ovation Brands had declared Chapter 11 in March 2016. At the time of the bankruptcy, the Greer, South Carolina-based company operated 328 restaurants and employed 17,000 people.
Now three major tenants of the Town & County Shopping Center have left the building. Ashley Furniture closed in October 2015 and Joe Caputo & Sons closed in November 2015. Joe Caputo & Sons only occupied their Arlington Heights store for 15 months following their opening in June 2014.
