Arlington Heights Police Officer Gary Kaminsky was awarded the L.W. Calderwood Officer of the Year Award at the Arlington Heights Rotary luncheon Thursday, March 10, 2016. Kaminsky received a standing ovation from the attendees at the luncheon with his wife, sons, in-laws and friends in attendance.
Kaminsky, who has been with the department for 27 years, joined the Arlington Heights Police Department in 1988. He has served on the patrol division, worked as a juvenile investigator, and served as a field training officer for new recruits working to become police officers with the department.

Sixty-six percent of all officers hired after 1993 were trained by Kaminsky and seventy-one percent of people who have received the Calderwood Award were trained by Kaminsky, according to Arlington Heights Police Chief Gerald Mourning. Among police officers Kaminsky has trained, 50 percent have been promoted to sergeant or commander.
During his career with Arlington Heights Police Department, Kaminsky has received 18 complimentary letters and 13 distinguished performance letters for his involvement in a wide variety of police incident assignments.
The L.W. Calderwood Award is named after former police chief L.W.Calderwood Award, and is presented annually at an Arlington Heights Rotary Club honor luncheon to a member of the police department who has made significant contributions to the community. L.W.Calderwood’s family members also traditionally attend the luncheon.
Arlington Heights police officers awarded the L.W. Calderwood Award during the past five years are Douglas Glanz, Michael McEvoy, Todd Radek, Michael Cowsert, and Ray Finnerty.
