Both vehicles were traveling west on Washington Street when the gunfire started. One driver attempted to flee southbound on Greenleaf Street toward Route 120, but Waukegan police stopped the offender nearby without incident (possibly on 14th Street with three other passengers in the vehicle). The other driver continued west past the Gurnee police station, where he was arrested near the police station.
Shell casings were found at the scene, and police impounded both vehicles. One of the vehicles might have been a Chevy Suburban.
The intersection of Greenleaf and Washington was closed for about two hours during the police investigation.
