Devastating storms killed at least nine people in South Carolina. CNN’s Polo Sandoval reports.
New mandatory evacuation orders were issued Monday after a dam failed in Forest Acres, South Carolina, a northeast suburb of Columbia. Residents on Overcreek Road and near Forest Drive were ordered to leave their homes immediately.

More than 150 water rescues have been performed
1,300 National Guardsmen are on duty and have performed 25 aerial rescues so far
550 roads and bridges are closed, and more are expected to close as floodwaters move toward the sea
Evacuations should be expected in parts of the Lowcountry as floodwaters move downstream
The death toll in South Carolina rose to 9 on Monday.
After a week of steady rain, the showers tapered off Monday and an inundated South Carolina turned to surveying a road system shredded by historic flooding.
The devastating flooding hitting South Carolina has reached catastrophic levels. Cars, boat and helicopters have been used to rescue hundreds. In Columbia, people are being told the water may not be safe to drink for days. To put it simply, the situation has turned disastrous. David Begnaud reports from South Carolina.
