Homeowners are outraged after finding small blood worms in their drinking and bathing water in Old River Winfree, Texas.
Residents in a Winfree, Texas subdivision served by a decades-old J&S Water Company facility began finding brown and red worms in their tap water this past Sunday. The worms in the Woodland Acres subdivision are believed to be blood worms.
One theory is not very reassuring: An inspector theorizes that with well-water and sewage treated side-by-side on the same property, one leaking line may have leached into the other.
Tests are ongoing. The Texas Commission of Environmental Quality visited Old River-Winfree Thursday to test water. Some residents found their bathtubs filled with blood worms that came out of the faucet.
NOTICE on City of Old River Windree Official Website
“Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia is having 2 pallets of water delivered to the city office tomorrow. Mayor Landry and Roger Johnson will be here to dispurse (sic) the water as needed. Please try to keep all your neighbors that are affected by J & S Water Supply (sic).
Also, Mayor Landry just spoke with Rex Tunze from Chambers County Environmental Health and Rex was told by TCEQ that we so far their findings are no residuals in the water but still on BOIL water because the bacteria report has not out at this time (sic).
If you do not feel comfortable boiling water, that is understandable so the city will continue to help with the water situation until it is all clear with TCEQ.”
