Washington Wildfire Destroys at Least 6 Homes in Wenatchee, East of Seattle

Authorities in Central Washington State are urging hundreds of people to leave their homes. A wildfire has burned at least 2.6 square miles, and is threatening numerous structures.

A wildfire in the Sleepy Hollow Heights neighborhood east of Wenatchee broke out about 2:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. CT) on Sunday and spread across 1,800 acres. The fire destroyed at least a dozen structures, including at least six homes in a few hours. The fire conditions with gusty winds and lightning could worsen the fire Monday.

Evacuation orders were in place for residents in at least 80 homes in the path of the fire.
