Chicagoland weather radar shows the leading edge of snow and drizzle approaching Woodstock, Elgin and Wheaton at about 7:30 p.m.
Snow expected reach Arlington Heights about 8:00 p.m. THE WINTER STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM CST SATURDAY TO 6 AM CST MONDAY.
Satellite images show clouds consistent with a large winter storm and low pressure system currently over Colorado and eastern Wyoming — approaching from the southwest.
The snow will “get going” about 9:00 p.m. over Arlington Heights with a little less than one inch expected by midnight. By noon Sunday a running total of 6.8 inches is expected. A running total of 10.6″ is forecast for midnight Sunday/Monday. By Monday at 5:00 a.m. the running total snowfall is forecast to be 11 inches in Arlington Heights.
Winds will gradually increase through the night and overnight steady at 24 mph from the northeast and gusting to at high as 35 mph. The highest winds Sunday will occur from noon to 11:00 p.m.
Temperatures are forecast to drop from 29°F midnight tonight to 26°F 9:00 a.m. Sunday to 10°F 9 a.m. Monday.
