There was some busy gift wrapping at Target, 1700 East Rand Road, for the annual “Shop with a Cop” event at Target Saturday morning. Arlington Heights Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 80 took eleven children Christmas and holiday shopping through the aisles of Target. Each child received $125 for shopping and each family received a $50 gift card. Each child also received a goody bag with two age-appropriate books and candy.

At 6:45 a.m. about 20 Arlington Heights police officers helped children buy gifts for their families. Each police officer had an assigned child with the help of a grant from Target. The police officers helped out with the budgeting during the shopping process. After proceeding through the cash registers, each child was assisted by John Hersey High School students with gift wrapping.
Target employees were in the spirit, as all in attendance were in holiday attire with friendly smiles.
Hersey High School sent at least 35 students — many part of SOS (Service Over Self organization) and/or SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). Teachers at John Hersey High School also put the word out for any students that wanted to help with shopping and gift wrapping.
Arlington Heights Police Officer Pete Hamrick coordinated the efforts of police officers and students.
The event started at 6:45 a.m. sharp, just before the store opened with its special hours of 8:00 am. to 12:00 a.m. that are in effect from 12/20/2014 to 12/22/2014. Target is open on December 23, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Target is also open Christmas Eve December 24, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Target is closed on Christmas Day.
