Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:38 p.m. Wednesday to an activated fire alarm at Costco, 1375 North Meacham Road Schaumburg, IL. First firefighters on the scene reported nothing showing from the outside of the building.
Once inside, firefighters did not initially find any smoke, but then discovered smoke and a fire at the rear of the retail warehouse.
Firefighters initially believed that the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system, but requested a working fire response as a precaution. A Schaumburg fire engine was also connected to supply the sprinkler system.
The fire was declared out by about 11:52 p.m.
Firefighters were ventilating the store and clearing it of smoke by about 11:54 p.m. The health department was called to the store to inspect the meat department because the fire was near the meat department. Two light fixtures were involved in the fire, which was extinguished by the building’s fire suppression sprinkler system.
