SUV Hits Utility Pole at Wilke Rd and Olive St, Palatine — Power Outage for Pole Replacement

Palatine and Arlington Heights police and Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:21 AM Saturday to a personal injury crash at Wilke Road and Olive Street Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a an SUV crash with a pole — initially at Northwest Highway and Wilke Road. Police and firefighter/paramedics eventually discovered the crash at Wilke Road and Olive Street near the border of Arlington Heights and Palatine. A Cook County Sheriff Police Department Deputy also discovered the crash while passing through the area.

The driver was evaluated by Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics. No word on whether the driver was transported.

A ComEd utility pole was snapped near the base. Wilke Road was closed for several hours for the incident that was located in Palatine’s jurisdiction. Palatine Rehab 81 was on the scene for several hours with Palatine Emergency Management Agency’s crew members to keep people from the hazards associated with the snapped pole.

ComEd was working to plan for the replacement of the utility pole on Saturday. The number of people without power was not available at the time of this report.

A driver of a silver minivan managed to ignore two police vehicles blocking southbound Wilke Road. The driver stopped when police called out for him to stop. He was then ordered to go in reverse, and head eastbound on Olive Street.
