Police and firefighter/paramedics responded to Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport after a private aircraft crashed with fire and black smoke rising from the crash scene.
The FAA confirmed that a twin engine lost power in an engine on takeoff from Wichita’s Mid-Continent airport and crashed into the Flight Safety building at the airport. The aircraft was later reported to be a Hawker Beechcraft B200 Super King Air. The east side of the roof on that two-story building collapsed. Firefighters reported fire burning on the roof of the building, and the east side of the building collapsed. About 50 to 60 firefighters fought the fire and were evacuated to defensive operations when the building was
“Firefighters engaged in a horrific fight for several minutes. We have the fire under control. We are in the process of trying to determine if all the employees and visitors who may have been in the building are accounted for.”

At least four people were killed because of the crash. Two of those killed were inside the building. At least one person is in critical condition and immediately after the crash 10 people were reported “unaccounted for.” By about 11:20 a.m. CDT five people were reported “unaccounted for” and the fire was under control. After 1:00 p.m. four people were “unaccounted for.”
Three people are reported in fair condition.
