Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:34 PM Tuesday to a report of a fire in an apartment/condo at Terrace of Elk Grove Village, 920 Ridge Square Elk Grove Village, IL. Police were first on the scene and evacuated the second and third floors. Police reported a fire in an apartment/condo on the third floor that may have started from pipe soldering on the first floor.
First firefighters on the scene reported no smoke showing from the outside, but soon afterwards reported fire conditions and smoke conditions on the inside. They also reported smoke showing from the exterior by about 5:43 p.m.
Interior attack firefighters discovered fire behind the walls in vertical corresponding residential units from the first floor to the third floor. Interior firefighters on fire attack report they were about to run out of air on their SCBA tanks. A crew from Arlington Heights Fire Department Engine 3 was already on the scene and was assigned to relieve the interior crew running out of air.
An extra alarm box alarm was then requested at about 6:05 p.m.
The fire was declared out at about 6:30 p.m.
Ridge Avenue is closed south of Elk Grove Boulevard.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Wood Dale were assigned to assist Elk Grove Village firefighters.
