Authorities are still looking for Eric Mathew Frein, the suspect in the shooting of two Pennsylvania state troopers.
Since Friday at 11:00 p.m. when two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot, and one was killed; area law enforcement officers have identified a suspect, who is known to dislike the police, and has left some clues revealing his identity.
A resident spotted a 2001 Jeep partially submerged in a pond about two miles from the scene of the police barracks shooting. Inside the Jeep, police found the defendant’s Social Security card, a Game Commission range permit for the defendant, camouflage face paint, a flashlight, black hooded sweatshirt, two empty rifle cases, military gear and various information revealing where he lives.
Frein is known to have previously expressed hatred for law enforcement in the past, and has made statements about wanting to kill officers and committing mass murder.
Frein’s father, Michael Frein, who is a retired major in the Army with 28 years of service, described his 31-year-old son as an excellent marksman who “doesn’t miss.” He also reported that two firearms — an AK-47 and a .308 rifle with a scope — are missing from their home. The suspect apparently lived with his parents in Canadensis, Pennsylvania.
A manhunt is underway for Frein, who is also described as a survivalist who nows the Pennsylvania area and deep woods very well.
Pennsylvania trooper Bryon Dickson — a seven-year veteran — was shot and killed as he walked out of the front door of the police barracks. He asked for help from a female communications officer, but when she tried to reach him to drag him inside, the offender fired off additional shots, preventing his rescue. Other troopers drove an SUV as cover to reach him, but he died after he was removed to a secure area. The offender also shot and critically injured state trooper Alex Douglass — a nine year veteran. Trooper Douglas was shot in the pelvis, but managed to drag himself into the lobby.
The offender used a .308 caliber rifle and then fled into the deep woods near the barracks.
