Evanston Police arrested a Mount Prospect man 3:30 PM Friday near Ashland Avenue and 1655 Foster Street Evanston, IL. Mount Prospect resident Jamal M. Dumas, 18, of the 1600 block of Cottonwood Drive in Mount Prospect, was arrested after Evanston police approached him and a group of people near the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center in Evanston at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Dumas was arrested by Evanston police after he was found in possession of a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun with an obliterated serial number, according to police.
Dumas was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card.
The group with Dumas is reported to be known for gang activity, according to police. Police offficers could smell cannabis when they approached, but there was no word on any Cannabis arrest.
Dumas is scheduled to appear in the Skokie branch of Cook County court at 9 a.m. on July 29.
