Power Outage “Transformer Hit” Power Lines Down Near Roosevelt and Central Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:28 PM Tuesday to a report of a transformer hit by lightning with arcing and flames in the block of 900 South Roosevelt Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that lightning may have struck a transformer. Fire and arcing was reported to be spreading near some trees — possibly behind March Animal Hospital, 1000 East Central Road.

Firefighters on the scene reported power out in the area, and discovered two power lines down. The power lines down were reported as pole-to-pole power lines — not a pole-to-house service drop.

The lines are down in the backyards between Dryden Place and Roosevelt Avenue, and between Central Road and Orchard Street.

ComEd had a delayed ETA due to numerous jobs in the area because of severe thunderstorms in the area, but arrived about midnight. At about 12:02 a.m. Wednesday, ComEd reported they were investigating a power failure with a marker near Banbury Road and Fairview Street indicating that 984 customers were without power in the area near Scarsdale.

Fire crews left the scene after Com Ed arrived as there was apparently no fire threat in the area at midnight.

About 730 customers were without power near Palatine Road just west of Route 53 in Palatine.

About five customers were also without power in the area of Miner Street and Windsor Drive in Arlington Heights.
