In her testimony before a House subcommittee, GM CEO Mary Barra says the automaker takes consumer safety very seriously.
From February 2014 to March 2014, General Motors recalled 2.6 million small cars due to faulty ignition switches, and, on March 31, announced it was going to recall over 1.5 million more vehicles. Over 1.3 million of these vehicle are believed to be in the United States. Faulty switches can shut off the car’s engine during driving and thereby preventing the airbags from inflating or can cause failure of power steering. Allegedly, GM was aware of the faulty switches for at least a decade prior to the recall being declared.
