Park Ridge police announced at a Saturday morning press conference that they have arrested the carjacking and kidnapping suspect from the incident that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Deangelo Fountain, suspect in vehicular highjacking, aggravated kidnapping and possession of stolen vehicle case.

On Thursday, February 20, 2014 at approximately 12:19 p.m. Park Ridge Police responded to a 911 call of a carjacking in the area of the 1700 block of Good Avenue. While responding, officers were made aware of the fact that a five-year-old child was in the back seat of the vehicle. Responding officers conducted a preliminary investigation, a search of the surrounding area and established a command post. In addition, radio broadcasts were issued to neighboring jurisdictions. After obtaining the requisite information, members from the department contacted the Illinois State Police and worked with them to issue an AMBER Alert. As officers and investigators from communities all across the northwest suburbs continued the search and investigation, Skokie Police received a call from a resident at approximately 2:15 p.m. that he thought he found a vehicle and child in an alley in the 5200 Block of Hoffman, Skokie Illinois which matched the description of the one he heard on the AMBER Alert. Skokie Police officers immediately responded and confirmed that the vehicle was there and the five-year-old victim was unharmed and safe.

Once the victim was located, all efforts were focused on finding the offender. Park Ridge Police received dozens of tips and phone calls from neighboring police agencies as well as the public. One of those tips led investigators to the offender, Deangelo Fountain, a male/black suspect, age 18, of 1315 Fowler, Evanston, Illinois.

About 11:45 a.m. Thursday Des Plaines police were called to a storage facility in the 1800 of Busse Highway to a report of a suspicious person, who was asking for a plastic bag to put over himself because it was raining. When Des Plaines police arrived, the suspicious man was gone, but police reviewed video surveillance images from the storage facility, which identified Deangelo Fountain.

Police also received information that Deangelo Fountain had also been in an altercation with a teacher at Metro Prep school at 2525 East Oakton Street in unincorporated Arlington Heights, near the intersection of Oakton Street and Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines. The school is in the jurisdiction of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department, and is about 4 miles diagonal to the crime scene, and about 5.5 miles via walking along roadways.

Investigators located Fountain and brought him to the Park Ridge Police department for questioning Thursday evening, February 20, 2014. As the investigation continued, and after conferring with representatives from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the following charges were placed against Deangelo Fountain:

Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking- Class X Felony

Aggravated Kidnapping- Class X Felony

Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle- Class 2 Felony

Deangelo Fountain was taken for a bond hearing this morning.
