Buffalo Grove police are alerting citizens of a new version of a ruse burglary — when one person distracts a homeowner, and one or more others sneak in the home and burglarize the home while the homeowner is distracted.
Buffalo Grove police report they have received information about the ruse burglary/scam, in which a person comes to the front door and is crying, asking for help finding their pet dog or cat. They state the pet ran in their back yard and ask for help finding it. The homeowner assisted and left the front door open, for others to then enter and steal items of value.
Buffalo Grove police recommend citizens share information about these scams with friends and neighbors to help spread the word.
