Cheryl Arnold describes how she used

Fighting back is not something Cincinnati police necessarily recommend, but they have to admit Cheryl Arnold “did what she had to do” and acted bravely.

Cheryl Arnold was working along when a robber walked into her apartment rental office in the 2700 block of Hillvista Lane at about 9:30 a.m. Friday. The offender struck Cheryl Arnold three times in the head, and started ransacking drawers, but found nothing.

When the offender walked around the front of the desk, Cheryl Arnold grabbed a dry chemical fire extinguisher and sprayed the offender. He fled, covered in white dust. Police arrived, and called in a K-9 unit, but the man escaped. Arnold said she has seen the offender loitering around the property before.

Cheryl Arnold attributed her quick thinking to a prior conversation she had with the fire extinguisher serviceman, who discussed using the fire extinguisher as a weapon.

Cheryl Arnold called the serviceman, who sounded like he teared up, when he heard the news.

The robbery was about 6 miles (10 mile drive) from Arlington Heights, Ohio.
