Antioch police and firefighter/paramedics responded to Antioch Upper Grade School, 800 Highview Drive, about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and activated an EMS Box Alarm after it was reported that a student distributed a prescription medication to some friends.
As a precaution paramedics were called and Antioch firefighter/paramedics activated a Life Safety Box, which brought six additional ambulances from neighborhing communities. Ten students were transported to area hospitals. Each student that was transported was believed to have taken one pill of a painkiller medication. No overdoses or signs or symptoms of a medical emergency were reported.

Rescue ambulances from Lake Villa, Fox Lake, Spring Grove, Grayslake, Round Lake and Newport Township responded. Students were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center and possibly at least one other hospital.
Antioch police are investigating the incident.
