Rick Harrison of TV show ‘Pawn Stars’ on the business of pawn shops, talks about too much regulation. Harrison says regulations need to be limited so small businesses can just get on with their business, but currently processes that used to take a couple of days, now take a couple of months or more.
Harrison says about 20 percent of people in America do not have credit cards or a bank account and use a pawn shop to “get by.” About 85 percent of loans on pawned items are repaid.
Pawn Stars is an American reality television series, shown on History (formerly The History Channel). The series is filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada, where it chronicles the daily activities at the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, a 24-hour family business opened in 1989 and operated by patriarch Richard “Old Man” Harrison, his son Rick Harrison, Rick’s son Corey “Big Hoss” Harrison, and Corey’s childhood friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell. Pawn Stars is produced by Leftfield Pictures.
There are more than 10,000 pawn stores in the United States — up over 56 percent since 2007.
Rick and Chumlee are gonna make it after all with a script from the Chuckles Bites the Dust episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
