Glenview firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday to a crash involving a garbage truck and a car on near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Harrison Street. First responders received a report the truck cab was on fire. When firefighters arrived, both vehicles were on fire.
The garbage truck apparently broadsided the car, which caused the car to rollover. The car was on its side with the front cab of the garbage truck on top of the edge of the car. Both vehicles were charred. There is no confirmation on the number of victims that were in the car.
The driver of the garbage truck apparently escaped without signifiant injuries.
At 4:35 p.m. Harlem Avenue was blocked in both directions between Central Road and Colfax Street. An Accident investigation team is expected to be working at the scene for an extended time period.
The crash scene was located just east of Hoffman Elementary School. School officials and Glenview School District 34 officials arranged alternate crossing passage for students walking home, and also re-routed buses away from the crash scene.
