A Northern California wildfire near Yosemite National Park grew overnight to more than three times the size of San Francisco and spread inside the border of the park. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency.
The Rim Fire had burned more than 125,620 acres by Friday night, after having nearly doubled in size. One person as injured in the Stanislaus National Forest. The fire is only 2 percent contained, and has destroyed at least 16 structures. More than 2,100 firefighters were battling the blaze, as of Friday.
On Friday, California Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in San Francisco, about 150 miles away from the raging wildfire. Transmission lines are threatened, and two of three hydroelectric plants in the area had to be shut down because of the fire. The state of emergency classification prepares the way to fund emergency power sources for the City of San Francisco.
The fire is not threatening Yosemite valley — the location of the high granite summits Half Dome and El Capitan.
