Arlington Heights police received a report about 3:58 PM Thursday of a bike theft in progress at a Metra train station bike rack, 45 West Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that two offenders took a blue Schwinn men’s blue bike valued at $180.
The crime was possibly captured by a surveillance camera and by a witness nearby.
A witness was in a vehicle on Dunton Avenue at Northwest Highway and saw that two subjects were hunched over a bike — with one appearing to have cut the security cable or other device that was securing the bike to the bike rack. The subjects then put the bike into a white work van.
The offenders were described by the witness as two male/black subjects between 5’7″ and 6′ — both in their 20s. One was described wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, and the other subject wearing a red T-shirt and Khaki-colored shorts or pants.
Video surveillance shows the first subject was wearing a white shirt and plaid shorts, and the second offender was wearing a red T-shirt, tan pants, and a red and tan baseball type hat.
A second bike that was left unattended June 27, 2013 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. was reported missing shortly after 6:30 p.m. The bike was described as a blue Schwinn men’s 27-inch road bike valued at $250 secured to same bike rack.
The crimes are believed to have occurred on Thursday, June 27, 2013 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
