DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced that Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s Moton to deny pre-trial release for a two-time convicted felon who was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Parion Lane, age 23, of the 500 block of Superior Street, Aurora, appeared in First Appearance Court Monday morning, February 24, 2025, charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender (Class X Felony), one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony) and multiple Misdemeanor offenses including Resisting a Police Officer.
Naperville police officers on patrol about 1:00 a.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025 near Washington Street and Ogden Avenue observed a vehicle at a gas station with expired license plates. The officers followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near 14th Avenue and Main Street. Prior to the traffic stop, one of the officers observed the driver, later identified as Lane, allegedly making furtive movements towards the driver’s side floorboard. After Parion Lane stopped his vehicle, he exited the vehicle, leaned in towards the driver’s side floorboard and then fled the scene on foot. Lane was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. When searching suspect Parion Lane and his vehicle, Naperville police officers allegedly located a loaded Springfield 9 mm semi-automatic handgun on the driver’s side floorboard of the car as well as sixteen grams of ecstasy (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, also known as MDMA — a stimulant and hallucinogen) on his person.
“In DuPage County, we will continue our efforts to remove illegally possessed firearms from our streets before they can be used in the commission of a crime. As a convicted felon who is currently on parole, Mr. Lane has forfeited his right to legally possess a firearm. Consequently, if these allegations are proven true, he now finds himself facing a possible penalty of between six to thirty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. I thank the Naperville Police Department for their heads-up work that led to the removal of an illegally possessed firearm from our streets and for their continued, pro-active work in keeping our communities safe. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Anna Derkacz and Kevin Kosman for their efforts in preparing a strong case against Mr. Lane.”
— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin
“Every day, our officers put themselves in dangerous situations to keep this community safe. In this case, a traffic stop for expired plates led to a foot chase and the arrest of a convicted felon illegally in possession of a loaded firearm,” Arres said. “I commend them for their bravery, their proactive work, and their unwavering service to the community, and I thank DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his office for being a strong partner to our efforts.”
— Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres
Lane’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 24, 2025, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
