A male offender apparently shot a woman and then shot himself in an underground parking garage at a condominium building on Northwest Highway on the west side of Mount Prospect near the border with Arlington Heights.

Michael Work, age 53, of Shorewood, Wisconsin (near Milwaukee) was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at about 8:55 p.m. Monday.

A female shooting victim, age 63, described as conscious and speaking with Mount Prospect Police Department detective, is the victim apparently shot by an ex-boyfriend, who apparently then shot himself.

The Major Case Assistance Team’s (MCAT) Forensic Team was assigned to the scene Monday night to assist with processing the crime scene for evidence.

Mount Prospect Police Department confirmed that the scene is contained and there is no threat to the community.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 4:47 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2025 to a report that a female was shot by her ex-boyfriend in an underground parking garage of the Meadows Condominiums building, 1200 West Northwest Highway in Mount Prospect. A second ambulance was dispatched when two victims with gunshot wounds were discovered inside the building. Both victims were possibly located in the “West Garage” of the three-story condominium building.

Both victims were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics. The male is reported to be 53 years-old, and the female is reported to be 63 years-old.




Crime scene tape was placed across the underground parking garage entrance on the west end of the building. No crime scene tape was located at the garage entrance on the northeast corner of the building.

A neighbor witness standing on the sidewalk near Northwest Highway and Evanston Avenue also reported hearing about nine gunshots, and said that she believed the shooting was a domestic related shooting.

There was also a third Mount Prospect Fire Department ambulance on the scene for a report of a personal injury crash at Northwest Highway and Evanston Avenue, just east of the Meadows Condominiums building. The ambulance was assigned about 4:58 p.m. Initially, there was no confirmed connection of the crash with the shooting incident.
