An endocrinologist hospitalist at Northwestern Medicine-McHenry, Huntley, Woodstock Hospitals, who was also a medical school professor who has served at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, died Sunday night after she was shot in the chest.
Dr. Olga Duchon, age 42, of Vernon Hills spoke to a Ukrainian medical association in Wheeling Sunday afternoon before visiting the townhome in Barrington where she was killed. Dr. Duchon graduated from Bukovina State Medical University in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 2006, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Endocrinologists treat endocrine system issues and hormone-related conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disease, pituitary gland issues, hormonal imbalances, hypothyroidism and metabolic syndrome.
A suspect in custody and also a 2 year-old child were transported away from the home and crime scene Sunday night.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office on Monday afternoon November 18, 2024 released the identity of a woman shot and killed Sunday night. The female gunshot victim was identified as Dr. Olga Duchon, of Vernon Hills. On Monday, November 18, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Dr. Duchon died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

A source familiar with the crime informed CARDINAL NEWS that the shooting occurred during a possible domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in Barrington.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Barrington responded about 5:35 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2024 to a report of a shooting that may have been domestic-related in the 400 block of West Russell Street in Barrington, police said.
Upon arrival, police officers discovered a 42-year-old woman who had been shot.
Police determined the scene was secure, and the woman was treated and transported by Barrington Fire Department paramedics to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where the woman identified as Dr. Olga Duchon was pronounced dead.
The victim’s identity was not initially released. The residence at The Arbors apartment/condo complex had a history of domestic disturbance-related calls, according to a source that preferred to remain anonymous.
The circumstances of a domestic disturbance were not initially confirmed officially by police, and initially there was no information released whether a suspect or person of interest was identified or in custody.
The Barrington Police Department and a Cook County Major Case Assistance Team are investigating the shooting death. The crime scene is located in Cook County, just south of County Line Road.
