Skokie Man, Stopped in His Vehicle, Stabbed in His Left Arm by Bicyclist in Road Rage Incident Downtown Des Plaines

The Des Plaines Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday, October 11, 2024 in the roadway near the Metra train station in the block of 1500 Miner Street (US-14) in downtown Des Plaines.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded about 12:15 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 to a report of a stabbing in the block of 1500 Miner Street for a report of a stabbing.




Upon arrival, police officers’ discovered a 53-year-old Skokie man, standing in the roadway, having suffered multiple stab wounds to his left arm. Police officers quickly performed life-saving measures to stop the bleeding, and paramedics immediately arrived to provide EMS treatment and transport the victim with serious injuries to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.




A preliminary investigation revealed that the Skokie resident, while driving in his vehicle westbound on Miner Street (US-14 WEST) encountered a male bicyclist riding in the roadway. Words were exchanged between the driver and the bicyclist. Next, the bicyclist pulled along the driver’s side of the stopped vehicle. With the window down, more words were exchanged, and the bicyclist began punching the driver through the open window of the vehicle. Once the driver, still seated, began to defend himself, the bicyclist allegedly brandished a knife from his pocket and stabbed the driver multiple times.

The physical description provided by the Des Plaines Police indicated the armed offender on the bicycle, is a male, approximately 30-40 years of age with olive complexion, last seen wearing (LSW) a gray tank top, khaki shorts, and a backpack.

The offender fled the scene before police arrived.

According to the Des Plaines Police Department, the investigation is ongoing, and initially the crime appears to be an isolated road rage incident. Police officers canvassed the area and checked for security video cameras that may have captured the crime involving the suspect, or which may have captured the suspect traveling before the crime or after fleeing the crime.

The crime scene was located near Miner Street and Metropolitan Way in downtown Des Plaines.
